What Is a Full Cord of Firewood? Understanding Firewood Measurements in Ontario
Share
If you're buying firewood in the Ottawa Valley, you’ve probably heard terms like full cord, face cord, or bush cord. But what do they actually mean?
At Alice Forestry Company, we believe in clear measurements and honest volume for customers across Alice, Round Lake, Rankin, Eganville, Pembroke, Petawawa, Cobden, Beachburg, Westmeath, Micksburg, Killaloe, and Osceola.
Here’s what you need to know.
What Is a Full Cord?
A full cord (also called a bush cord) equals:
4 feet high x 4 feet deep x 8 feet long
= 128 cubic feet of stacked wood
This is the standard measurement in Ontario.
What Is a Face Cord?
A face cord is:
4 feet high x 8 feet long
Depth depends on log length (often 16 inches)
That means a face cord is only a fraction of a full cord.
Why Measurement Matters
If pricing seems unusually low, always confirm:
-
Is it a full cord?
-
What is the log length?
-
Is it tightly stacked or loosely thrown?
Clear measurement ensures fair pricing and predictable heating supply.
